Richardson Set to Return to TBT with Syracuse’s Alumni Team for First Time Since 2021

SYRACUSE, (June 13,  2025) –  Boeheim’s Army, the Syracuse alumni team hosting The Basketball Tournament’s (TBT) regional at the SRC Arena at Onondaga Community College from July 19–23, today announced the roster addition of Syracuse alum Malachi Richardson.

Malachi Richardson becomes the seventh player to commit to Boeheim’s Army this summer, joining Buddy Boeheim, Jimmy Boeheim, Elijah Hughes, Chris McCullough, Rakeem Christmas and Nick Perkins. Additional roster announcements will follow in the coming weeks. Legendary coach Jim Boeheim will serve as the team’s head coach emeritus.

This will mark Richardson’s third TBT appearance, having previously suited up for Boeheim’s Army in 2020 and 2021. He returns to the squad for the first time since helping lead them to the $1 million championship in 2021.

Richardson played one season at Syracuse (2015–16) before declaring for the NBA Draft. During his lone year with the Orange, he started all 37 games and averaged 13.4 points per game, playing a key role in Syracuse’s run to the Final Four.

Richardson was selected with the 22nd overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. After two seasons with the Sacramento Kings and one with the Toronto Raptors, Richardson made the move overseas and has since played for multiple teams across Asia, Europe and North America.

The winner of the Syracuse Regional will advance to TBT’s quarterfinals on July 29. The semifinals will be held on July 31, and TBT’s $1 million championship will be played on Aug. 3.
