Elijah Hughes Joins Boeheim’s Army as Team’s First Commitment
SYRACUSE, Feb. 24, 2025 – The Basketball Tournament (TBT), the 64-team, $1 million winner-take-all event, announced today that Syracuse will once again serve as one of the regional locations for the 2025 event. Boeheim’s Army, the Syracuse University alumni team, will return as the featured team in the eight-team Syracuse Regional.
Boeheim’s Army’s first commitment for 2025 is former Syracuse star and NBA player Elijah Hughes, who will make his TBT debut this summer.
The 2025 Syracuse Regional will be played at SRC Arena at Onondaga Community College from July 18-23.
Syracuse will host a TBT regional for the fourth time this summer, previously hosting the event in 2019, 2022, and 2023.
Renowned philanthropist and business mogul, Adam Weitsman, is making his highly anticipated return as Chairman of Boeheim’s Army. Weitsman first joined the team in 2021, playing a crucial role in leading Boeheim’s Army to its first-ever TBT championship. After stepping away in 2022, he’s back and eager to bring the championship back to Syracuse.
Boeheim’s Army first appeared in TBT in 2015, and has entered a team in ten of the 12 years of the tournament. One of the most dominant teams in tournament history, Boeheim’s Army won the $1 million championship in 2021 – a victory they proudly attribute to the unmatched leadership, vision and support of Adam Weitsman. Boeheim’s Army has also made two semifinal appearances, and six quarterfinal appearances.

“We’re excited to have TBT to come back to Syracuse,” said former Syracuse men’s basketball head coach Jim Boeheim. “We really missed it last summer. It’s such a fun tournament, and it’s really great when you win like we did a few years ago. People in Syracuse really enjoy it.”
“We missed the Boeheim’s Army fan base last summer and look forward to bringing TBT back to Syracuse in July,” said TBT founder and CEO Jon Mugar. “For the first time, we are featuring home court advantage through the championship, so it’s possible Boeheim’s Army will run the table in front of its home fan base all the way through!”
The Syracuse alumni team will be joined in the regional by seven other teams hoping to emerge one step closer to TBT’s $1M grand prize.
The winner of the Syracuse Regional will advance to the TBT Quarterfinals on July 29. The semifinals will be held on July 31, and the TBT $1 Million Championship will be played on Sun. Aug. 3.
For the first time, TBT will give each host team the opportunity to have home court advantage for the quarterfinals, semifinals, and the $1 million championship game. Should two regional hosts face off, the tie breaker will be determined by which host sells 4,000 tickets the fastest. Tickets will go on sale May 6.
Boeheim’s Army will make additional roster announcements in the spring via their social media pages, @BoeheimsArmy.
