Jared Sullinger manned the Carmen’s Crew sideline as coach of the 2019 TBT title team. On Sunday in Philadelphia, the former Buckeye did his work between the lines.

Sullinger, the 2012 Boston Celtics’ first-round pick, hit a turnaround jumper in the lane, and Carmen’s Crew outlasted the Forever Coogs, 69-65, to capture the second TBT title in team history.

“You’re a kid in college and you take it for granted, then you miss it so much,” reflected Sullinger. “I’ll never take this for granted.”

Sullinger finished with a game-high 18 points on 5-for-7 shooting and added a team-high eight rebounds but deflected the credit to Carmen’s Crew coach Leon Rodgers.

“[Rodgers] held us to a standard,” said Sullinger. “He’s the reason why we won. We wouldn’t win this tournament without his sacrifice. He’s done a lot.”

Brothers Kaleb (15 points) and Andre (13 points) Wesson added to the scoring effort for the Buckeyes alumni squad, which won despite being outscored in the paint, 30-18.

Carmen’s Crew held sharpshooting Forever Coogs guard Rob Gray to just 10 points on just 3-for-11 shooting. The University of Houston alumni squad was undone by making just 14% (3-for-21) of its shots from beyond the arc.

This was the sixth title for an alumni team in TBT’s 11-year history. Alumni teams have now won five of the last six TBT crowns. Sunday’s final marked the second title game matchup of alumni teams. Carmen’s Crew has now won both all-alumni team championship games, having defeated the Golden Eagles (Marquette University) for the 2019 crown.
