31 of 32 Teams That Won a First Round Game in 2021 Accept Bid For TBT 2022

BOSTON, Jan. 26, 2021 – The Basketball Tournament (TBT), the million dollar, winner-take-all event televised live on ESPN, today announced that 31 of 32 teams that won a game in 2021 have accepted an automatic bid to compete in TBT 2022.

As part of TBT’s “Run It Back,” bids for this summer’s tournament were extended to all teams that won a game last summer.

“It’s very hard to win a game in TBT,” said founder and CEO Jon Mugar. “These invitations are an acknowledgement of the incredible job these 32 general managers did to build successful teams last summer. And with only 32 slots remaining, the competition to play this summer has just gotten that much more intense.”

Amongst the group of accepted teams includes alumni representation from Ohio State, Oregon, Miami, Marquette, Purdue, Buffalo, Oklahoma State, and Arkansas. They will join a field consisting of alumni teams from Syracuse, Xavier, West Virginia, Marshall, Dayton, Creighton, Wichita State, and New Mexico.

TBT’s 2022 field now has 32 of 64 spots filled. The Money Team did not accept their bid in time, but may still return. Additionally, The Enchantment (New Mexico alumni) did not win a game last summer, but have been accepted as a TBT 2022 host team. The application period for the remaining 32 teams will run from April 1-June 15 on TheTournament.com. The final 32 teams will be announced in late June.
