Trevelin Queen had to grind out the mud before going D1 and landing in the G-League.

A three sport athlete growing up in Baltimore, Queen pursued basketball in college despite receiving no offers. This resulted in him starting his career at College of Marin, a community college near San Francisco.

Due to the exorbitant prices in Marin County, Queen was forced to live in a crowded retirement home just to get by. His two-bedroom unit housed 15 (!!!) people total, with most sleeping on air mattresses on the floor.

They were eventually kicked out and Queen moved into a 1982 Oldsmobile Delta car with three of his teammates.

“I was homeless, kicked out, hungry,” Queen told @hoopshypeofficial in 2020. “We all had our clothes in the backseat. You put us in there and the gasoline starts to leak and to get to our school was 45 minutes. And gas in California isn’t cheap.”

“There were shootouts every day. But that gave me so much strength, too. I went through all that.”

Despite these conditions, Queen averaged a team-high 21.3 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game at College of Marin.

On the advice of his family, he transferred to New Mexico Military Institute and ultimately D1 New Mexico State. With more structure Queen thrived, earning 2019 WAC Tournament MVP honors his junior season and being named Second-team All-WAC his senior year.

Queen has since spent the last two seasons in the G-League for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. This past summer, he also suited up with the Lakers in preseason & Eberlein Drive in TBT 2021.
